A member of the College Opticians, she’s been in the eye care profession for 30 years and has worked with Dr. Miranda since 1999. Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Alisa has 2 children pursuing degrees in science and medicine, a dog named “Huck” and 2 cats. When she’s not helping our patients find the perfect eyewear for their vision and lifestyle needs, you can find her in her garden, cooking, running and spending time with her family.
A high school teacher by trade, Chelsea loves the people she works with here at our practice. She lived for many years in the city built on rock, Flin Flon, Manitoba, which was named after the fictional character, Flintabbatey Flonatin, and is home to the Flin Flon Bombers and a large copper and zinc mine. She brought a little piece of Manitoba here to the island in her dog, Lexi, a 9-year-old Shepherd/husky cross rescue dog from Northern Manitoba. She loves all the outdoor activities the island offers, from snowboarding to wakeboarding. When she’s not exploring Vancouver Island, she’s off travelling somewhere else.
Nanette, or Nette, grew up on a farm southeast of Regina, Saskatchewan, near a small town called Davin. She enjoys spending time with family and her grandchildren, wandering around local farmers’ markets, and checking out the local fare and the culture of a small, local community.
She also likes shopping, collecting craft supplies, and Friday night movie nights. Nanette has two super adorable Havanese dogs named Lenny and Chester who are inseparable. A fun fact about her is that she has a certificate in Broadcasting and was actually a news announcer on a radio station in a small town for a short period of time. Nanette is right where she wants to be, enjoying coming to work in the morning and working with such positive people.
Janine grew up and still lives in Cowichan Valley, where she’s been an optician since 1995. A member of the College of Opticians, she and her husband Warren, enjoy watching their son Kyler play hockey and baseball.
Olivia, nicknamed Burt, was born and raised in Duncan. She enjoys hiking, camping, skiing, surfing, and studying, and loves that you can drive to most of these activities without leaving Vancouver island. Olivia likes to eat healthily and is a bit of an exercise addict. She hopes to one day have many pets, as she is an animal lover, but in the meantime, she suffices with her friends' dogs. Olivia has always been interested in becoming an Optometrist, Ophthalmologist, Pharmacist or Doctor- something in the medical field. She is currently attending the University of Victoria (starting her 3rd year) and is studying Chemistry for the medical sciences.
A recent graduate from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Arts, Major in Art History with Distinction, Laura worked her way through school as a barista, picking up additional expertise in Lattes, Macchiatos and Americanos. A native of Campbell River, she loves Vancouver Island which has always been her home.

A proud geek who never wants to stop learning, Syd or Squid, or Syd the Squid, or Syd the Kid, has always been interested in science, particularly biology, so working in an optometry practice is a great fit. She loves the friendly faces that she gets to work with every day, as well as how technology is revolutionizing the level of eye care that we are able to provide to our patients.
Born in Calgary, her family moved to Smithers, a small town in northern BC, and then to Kamloops a few years later, but Sydnee has called Vancouver Island home for the last 6 years. Growing up on the prairies, she loves not having to worry about snow in July, having lakes, rivers and oceans to go for a dip in, and the forest where she feels most at peace. Aside from being named the MVP of her softball league, and serving as an extra in an episode of Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Syd has a wide range of hobbies from knitting to cooking and baking and hopes one day to become more self-sufficient by taking up gardening, canning, and hunting.
Janet was born and raised in Prince George. She moved to Victoria in 2001, then to Shawnigan 5 years ago. Some of Janet's hobbies are gardening, hiking, and exploring the island with her husband and kids. Janet finds the weather and being near the island the main reasons she moved to the Island. She can't wait to start kayaking! Her favorite foods are Thai and Mexican food.
She also has 2 Boston Terriers named Daisy and Roxy.
Danielle is a Technician and a Vision Therapist. She enjoys learning new aspects of optometry and has lots of fun working with her patients. She is looking forward to furthering her skills in Optometry and pursuing her education in Vision Therapy. Danielle spent a few years in Kingston, Ontario and since moving back to the island, she has found a new appreciation for the mountains and the ocean. Danielle has had many rescue animals in her life. She enjoys taking her dog Ned on hikes and laying in the sun with her other dog, Jemma. Learning to garden, being outdoors and travelling are a few of her interests.
Sonya (or Sonj) grew up in Squamish, a very small town which at one time had only one street light and no fast food restaurants!
Since adopting her son, who was born without the muscle in his eyelid, Sonya became interested in optometry, as it offers her the chance to do what she loves - to help people. Sonya has also opened her heart and home to 17 foster children over the past 10 years!
In her spare time, Sonya likes to read, bake and sew (she earned a college scholarship for her outstanding sewing skills!). Sonya loves to play with her dogs, Lily and Frankie and her birds Lucy and Ricky. She also enjoys the laid-back pace of life on Vancouver Island.
A native of New Zealand, who has travelled and worked in Europe, the UK and Africa, Cindy found her way to Cobble Hill Eye Care in April 2014 to join our staff. She keeps busy hiking, swimming, travelling, reading, ziplining, going to concerts, and watching her son playing ice hockey. With all of these activities she still finds time to take care of her son, a dog and 2 cats, and really loves to spend time with family and friends.

Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Erin moved to the Cowichan Valley in 1996 where she spends her time away from work hiking, mountain biking, gardening and relaxing with friends and family. A member of our staff since 2007, she gets satisfaction from using her experience to help our patients find the perfect pair of glasses, assisting them in seeing the world more clearly. Married with 2 children and lots of critters, Erin loves how the practice of optometry is constantly evolving, with technological advances, as well as meeting the latest fashion trends.
Annie's friendly face will greet you when you walk through the doors of our Duncan location. She was born and raised in the Cowichan Valley. She moved away a few times but always seemed to come back to this awesome town! Nothing beats the outdoors on Vancouver Island!
She received a few field hockey awards when she was younger and played competitively in the Valley. More recently, she received a few awards for her volunteer work with local charities
Anne became interested in Optometry because a co-worker spoke so highly of working at Cowichan Eyecare. Her favorite part of her job is working with such pleasant co-workers and the ongoing learning.
Her hobbies include hiking, fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with her two dogs, Finn and Decker.
For this Cowichan Bay native, a meeting with Dr. Miranda on the golf course led to her recruitment to Cobble Hill Eyecare, where she conducts diagnostic testing, assists our doctors in the exam room, and does contact lens training. A graduate with Honors from Camosun College, Alicia enjoys painting and spending time with her family.
Donna grew up in St. Johns Newfoundland, which was an amazing place to grow as a child. She felt she needed to explore and found herself on the other side of Canada on a rock. She completed her CCOA (Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant) in June 2016. In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with her family and Roxy, her beautiful little dog. Although Roxy is really sad when she leaves for work, she gets very excited when Donna returns home. Donna was very fortunate to be a part of optometry in 2004 and really enjoys the people and helping them make informed decisions. For Donna, the best place to live is in Canada, especially Vancouver Island, as the weather is great and usually no snow to shovel. One of her goals in life is to be one of those people that rescue, care for and find loving homes for animals in need.
Jayda was born and raised in the Cowichan Valley. She loves living on the island because it's an adventure waiting to happen. Her hobbies range from playing baseball and hiking to reading, listening to music, or simply spending time with friends and family. She has two cats, Mojo and Nona, where "Nona" stands for no name. She couldn't find a name that suited her. Most people don't know that Jayda is also an aerial dancer.
Her favourite food is tacos ?
She hopes to become an optician as she's interested in learning the technology behind the lenses. Plus, she loves the fashion aspect of eyeglasses and wants to help people feel confident in a pair of frames that fit their personal style.

Sherry’s interest in optometry started through photography when she used to develop film. She enjoyed the various perspectives and how everyone viewed things differently. She decided to help people achieve their best view possible through optometry.
Her favourite part of her job changes overtime. She loves to help make small adjustments or repairs to a broken pair of eyeglasses. But, she also enjoys watching a child put on their first pair of glasses, where their eyes take in all the new details of the world around them.
Sherry enjoys exploring new sights in BC, especially with the added convenience of being close to all the mountains, trails, and the ocean! She loves how friendly and welcoming the people are in the Cowichan Valley. She’s very thankful to have chosen Vancouver Island to move to and look forward to exploring all of it!
