A member of the College Opticians, she’s been in the eye care profession for 30 years and has worked with Dr. Miranda since 1999. Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Alisa has 2 children pursuing degrees in science and medicine, a dog named “Huck” and 2 cats. When she’s not helping our patients find the perfect eyewear for their vision and lifestyle needs, you can find her in her garden, cooking, running and spending time with her family.
A high school teacher by trade, Chelsea loves the people she works with here at our practice. She lived for many years in the city built on rock, Flin Flon, Manitoba, which was named after the fictional character, Flintabbatey Flonatin, and is home to the Flin Flon Bombers and a large copper and zinc mine. She brought a little piece of Manitoba here to the island in her dog, Lexi, a 9-year-old Shepherd/husky cross rescue dog from Northern Manitoba. She loves all the outdoor activities the island offers, from snowboarding to wakeboarding. When she’s not exploring Vancouver Island, she’s off travelling somewhere else.
Janine grew up and still lives in Cowichan Valley, where she’s been an optician since 1995. A member of the College of Opticians, she and her husband Warren, enjoy watching their son Kyler play hockey and baseball.
A recent graduate from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Arts, Major in Art History with Distinction, Laura worked her way through school as a barista, picking up additional expertise in Lattes, Macchiatos and Americanos. A native of Campbell River, she loves Vancouver Island which has always been her home.
During her free time, Laura enjoys taking her dog Audi on adventures, hiking and exploring the wonderful oceans, mountains and forests of Vancouver Island. At home, you’ll find her cooking, baking and munching on popcorn, which always makes her feel better.
A proud geek who never wants to stop learning, Syd or Squid, or Syd the Squid, or Syd the Kid, has always been interested in science, particularly biology, so working in an optometry practice is a great fit. She loves the friendly faces that she gets to work with every day, as well as how technology is revolutionizing the level of eye care that we are able to provide to our patients.
Born in Calgary, her family moved to Smithers, a small town in northern BC, and then to Kamloops a few years later, but Sydnee has called Vancouver Island home for the last 6 years. Growing up on the prairies, she loves not having to worry about snow in July, having lakes, rivers and oceans to go for a dip in, and the forest where she feels most at peace. Aside from being named the MVP of her softball league, and serving as an extra in an episode of Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Syd has a wide range of hobbies from knitting to cooking and baking and hopes one day to become more self-sufficient by taking up gardening, canning, and hunting.
Janet was born and raised in Prince George. She moved to Victoria in 2001, then to Shawnigan 5 years ago. Some of Janet’s hobbies are gardening, hiking, and exploring the island with her husband and kids. Janet finds the weather and being near the island the main reasons she moved to the Island. She can’t wait to start kayaking! Her favorite foods are Thai and Mexican food.
She also has 2 Boston Terriers named Daisy and Roxy.
Danielle was born in the Cowichan Valley. She lived in Ontario for a few years before moving back to the Island. Today, she enjoys learning all the new aspects of optometry. In her free time, Danielle participates in aerial dancing, hiking, camping, and baking.
She loves being with her two dogs, Ned and Jemma, and two rescue horses, Summer and Penny. She has a passion to travel and backpacked through Italy with her boyfriend.
Debbie “Swiss” grew up in Brentwood Bay, and moved to the valley in 1994. She has two beautiful teenagers as well as two dogs, Luck and TalaDaga, two cats, King Arthur and C.A.T., and lots of fish all named fishy. While she loves meeting new people and helping patients feel comfortable during their tests, Debbie loves to spend her time outside the office kickboxing, kayaking, surfing, snowboarding, or singing in the car. She loves living on Vancouver Island to access the great outdoors and continue her hobbies like surfing and skiing. Aside from being a talented technician, she also knows how to walk on her hands! Her dream is to travel the world as there’s so much to see and experience.
Her favorite snack is salty chips with monkey brains (a.k.a deep fried avocado).
Sonya (or Sonj) grew up in Squamish, a very small town which at one time had only one street light and no fast food restaurants!
Since adopting her son, who was born without the muscle in his eyelid, Sonya became interested in optometry, as it offers her the chance to do what she loves – to help people. Sonya has also opened her heart and home to 17 foster children over the past 10 years!
In her spare time, Sonya likes to read, bake and sew (she earned a college scholarship for her outstanding sewing skills!). Sonya loves to play with her dogs, Lily and Frankie and her birds Lucy and Ricky. She also enjoys the laid-back pace of life on Vancouver Island.
A native of New Zealand, who has travelled and worked in Europe, the UK and Africa, Cindy found her way to Cobble Hill Eye Care in April 2014 to join our staff. She keeps busy hiking, swimming, travelling, reading, ziplining, going to concerts, and watching her son playing ice hockey. With all of these activities she still finds time to take care of her son, a dog and 2 cats, and really loves to spend time with family and friends.

Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Erin moved to the Cowichan Valley in 1996 where she spends her time away from work hiking, mountain biking, gardening and relaxing with friends and family. A member of our staff since 2007, she gets satisfaction from using her experience to help our patients find the perfect pair of glasses, assisting them in seeing the world more clearly. Married with 2 children and lots of critters, Erin loves how the practice of optometry is constantly evolving, with technological advances, as well as meeting the latest fashion trends.
For this Cowichan Bay native, a meeting with Dr. Miranda on the golf course led to her recruitment to Cobble Hill Eyecare, where she conducts diagnostic testing, assists our doctors in the exam room, and does contact lens training. A graduate with Honors from Camosun College, Alicia enjoys painting and spending time with her family.
Donna grew up in St. Johns Newfoundland, which was an amazing place to grow as a child. She felt she needed to explore and found herself on the other side of Canada on a rock. She completed her CCOA (Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant) in June 2016. In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with her family and Roxy, her beautiful little dog. Although Roxy is really sad when she leaves for work, she gets very excited when Donna returns home. Donna was very fortunate to be a part of optometry in 2004 and really enjoys the people and helping them make informed decisions. For Donna, the best place to live is in Canada, especially Vancouver Island, as the weather is great and usually no snow to shovel. One of her goals in life is to be one of those people that rescue, care for and find loving homes for animals in need.
Brooklyn is one of our technicians at Cowichan, and is a native to the Cowichan Valley, even though, she was born in Victoria and lived there until the age of 3. Vancouver Island is one of her favorite places to live since there’s always something new and beautiful to discover
Her childhood nickname was Minnie Mouse, which may have contributed to her love of the theatre. In high school, she received the highest theatre award, and even had an award named after her for outstanding leadership in theatre.
While she is directing Cowichan Secondary’s very first Theatre Alumni show, her other interests include going to the gym, yoga, dirt biking, reading and acting. She has one fluffy black cat named Cesar, who, unfortunately, offers no good stories as he’s a bit of a jerk. She’s glad to share her Hogwarts house is Slytherin even though they have a bad reputation.
Her goal is to become a Neonatal nurse in the NICU, and eventually become a nurse practitioner. Part of the reason she was interested in optometry, is that she loves that she can learn something new every day and enjoys a fast paced workplace. During her break, you might catch with her favorite snack: anything sweet paired with a bag of salty chips and a cold can of coke.
Jayda was born and raised in the Cowichan Valley. She loves living on the island because it’s an adventure waiting to happen. Her hobbies range from playing baseball and hiking to reading, listening to music, or simply spending time with friends and family. She has two cats, Mojo and Nona, where “Nona” stands for no name. She couldn’t find a name that suited her. Most people don’t know that Jayda is also an aerial dancer.
Her favourite food is tacos 🌮
She hopes to become an optician as she’s interested in learning the technology behind the lenses. Plus, she loves the fashion aspect of eyeglasses and wants to help people feel confident in a pair of frames that fit their personal style.
Michelle joined our staff in the role of receptionist at our new Duncan office, and she’s already found that her favourite part of the job is interfacing with our fun staff and our great patients. With her interest in interior decorating and design, she also enjoys seeing the new eyewear fashions and trends which make her feel like she’s almost a part of the fashion industry.
A long time resident of Vancouver Island, Michelle feels lucky to live in such a beautiful place with so many outdoor activities right on her doorstep, and loves purchasing many of the local products at the fabulous downtown outdoor market. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, friends and her spoiled rescue cat Lily, exploring the great outdoors, especially the beach in the summer, mountain biking and hiking.
It pays to try and catch her when she’s at home because she’s an avid baker, and anyone who visits her home is always treated to some fresh baked goodies!

Rebecca is really interested in optometry, especially using the fundus camera and Optomap machines to take hi-definition photos! She notices that patients love it, too!
A technician on our team, Lauren, is learning something new every day and says that the best part of her job here at Cowichan Eyecare is getting to work with very knowledgeable and compassionate co-workers. A native of Port Hardy, she loves the relaxed vibe of living on Vancouver Island and is often seen adventuring in the surrounding area. In her spare time, you’ll find Lauren in one of her of many pursuits including crocheting, playing the ukulele, and of course chasing her (very busy) toddler.

During the past 15+ years spent in Hope BC, Sherry has done more than work for eye doctors. In her spare time, she also started a small home-based business called Rivers Edge Barkery, which specializes in making all-natural dog treats and was even featured on Global News. She has a beautiful Rottie named Bruin, the happiest dog there can be (well, who wouldn’t with a “mom” making him treats!) She feels that they are a perfect match for each other, as they both recently started a new on Vancouver Island. Sherry also enjoys Jeeping, hiking, furniture restoration, and photography. In fact, it was her appreciation of photography and each person’s unique view that brought her to optometry: “I enjoy when people can see their friends and family, and the beauty of everything around them clearer.”
A native of Merrit, Bree Green, has done alot of ice fishing and even earned her sky diving certification. She enjoys hiking, fishing, camping and painting, as well as spending time with her dogs Simba and Timber and cats Ceder and Sittca. Adventure is Bree’s second name!
Bree became interested in optometry when she worked at the Sunglass Hut, where she loved helping customers choose suitable frames to help them look great!
