Protecting your privacy
Professional care depends on trust and confidence, particularly when it comes to the privacy of your personal information. To provide you with the best care possible, your optometrist requires honest, complete and accurate personal information.
The optometrist’s commitment to ensure that all personal information remains completely protected.
Optometrists have established policies and practices to ensure the privacy of your personal information. To provide complete and timely eye care today, your personal information may be shared with other organizations, like your family doctor, eye surgeons or other specialists. Similarly, portions of your personal information may be shared with organizations involved in administration support for health care offices, or your benefit providers, such as insurance companies, WorkSafe BC, ICBC, Health Canada and others. In limited circumstances, your doctors may be obligated by law, or requested to provide personal information to specific government agencies. In all cases, disclosure of your personal information only occurs with the full understanding of continued protection.
You are not required to provide any personal information, but failure to provide information could hinder the quality of your care. You are also entitled to access records that contain your personal information (access fees may apply).
Optometrists undertake that all your personal information will remain protected and appropriately safeguarded. If you have questions or concerns about the privacy of your personal information, please feel free to ask your optometrist.
